Frustration

8% - Amount of the average yearly income in England that is spent on
healthcare

11% - Amount of the average yearly income in the United States that is
spent on healthcare

0% - Percentage of population in England that is NOT covered with
health care

16% - Percentage of population in the United States that is NOT
covered with health care.

The quality of care in England is just as top notch as it is in the
United States.

They spend less and cover EVERYONE.

What is so difficult to understand? Why do we HAVE to be so rich? Why
do we HAVE to make millions?

Ya know it is possible to make a GREAT living and still take care of
those who don't make so much. You don't HAVE to make a million dollars.

I'm embarassed that people that are close to me think our healthcare
is in good shape.

Am I dealt less of a Christian because I think we should look after
each other?

I hear ya!
AND, most other countries have much better maternity leave for moms AND dads...it's MUCH longer, a year or more in some places...and it's PAID....
leave after having a baby in the us stinks.....most places are not even required to pay you a dime while you are gone!
I don't get how America, the "great", can not me up to par w/ other countries that are not considered as "high" and "great"
anyways....enough w/ my rant!

the only issue i have with what you said is that the income tax bracket in England for those who make over 35000 Pounds (or $55,000 US) starts at 40%. That means that after taxes you will have to live on the equivalent of 33K per year. That is difficult to do no matter where you live.

The average tax bracket in the US (Federal and State combined) is near 30%. That equates to an extra $458/month for the US household. That is more than enough to pay for health care even for my family of 6 with some left over.

The British government then takes your taxes and subsidizes your health care costs. So in essence you are paying for your own health care (and the health care of all the others in the country) out of your taxes. That is the nature of socialized medicine.

Since we live in a capitalist country I much prefer to have the choice of my health care provider and not be limited to what the government says I have to take since they are paying for it with my tax money.

As with most things in life getting and paying for health care is a choice and a privilege, not right.

that is my two cents (before taxes...)

Most people can't afford the premiums or the drugs they need to begin with. So while YOU may be able to afford YOUR payments, there are those who can't. Most of them can't for legitimate reasons. So while it may seem nice that YOU can afford your payments, there are fellow Americans that NEED help. Why would anyone be against that?

At the end of the day, there is a HUGE population that has NO coverage. Why would anyone be ok with that?

I'm willing to help them out, even if you're not.

I need to stop with all of this. I need to accept that people I care about only seem to care about themselves.

Wow.....I must say that is a cruel statement. I don't think that health care is a "privilege" .... I believe that health care for ALL is a RIGHT!
There are people very close and dear to me and YOU that CAN NOT afford insurance, does that mean that they are not "privileged" enough to have health care so that we may be able to enjoy them healthy and vibrant?
One person that we BOTH love and care about does NOT have health coverage....thankfully she is not faced w/ any major health concerns or risks. BUT what if something happened to her? what if she fell ill? what then? is she not "privleged" enough to have decent insurance to help w/ the medical costs?

I agree Brian. We all need to look at the bigger picture. WE all need to stop thinking about just us, just what we can afford for our wives/husbands and children.
we all need to help eachother.

some of us work just has hard as the next person but make much less money therefor are unable to have AFFORDABLE access to health insurance. So, we go without. The bills mount and we work harder and get no where.

I am not a pro at insurance, taxes etc. I am by far not claiming to know it all. But it is easy to see when some people have one sided views and a hard time thinking of anyone but themselves.
There are sooo many people like that. and it's hard to realize it sometimes.

I don't want to get in the midst of all this, but I had to put my two cents in.
